You've Been Managing Your Anxiety So Long, You've Forgotten What Life Without It Feels Like.

Most people who come to us for anxiety counseling have been living with it for years — sometimes decades. From the outside, they look completely fine. On the inside, the noise never stops.

Maybe your mornings start with a knot in your stomach before you’ve even checked your phone. Maybe you rehearse conversations before they happen and replay them long after they’re done. Maybe you’ve gotten so good at appearing calm that the people closest to you have no idea how much energy it takes just to get through a normal day.

You’ve probably told yourself to think positive, breathe through it, or just stop worrying so much — and it works, sometimes, for a little while. But the anxiety always comes back.

That’s not a willpower problem. That’s anxiety — and it responds to the right kind of anxiety treatment, not more willpower.

At Aspire Psychological Group, our anxiety counseling is built around understanding the specific way anxiety shows up in your life — and giving you real, evidence-based tools to change it. Not just cope with it. Change it.

Specialized Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety Isn't One Thing. We Treat Every Way It Shows Up.

Our anxiety counseling is tailored to the specific type of anxiety you’re dealing with — not a generic program built for everyone. We treat the full spectrum of anxiety presentations in children, adolescents, and adults.

Generalized Anxiety
Disorder (GAD)

The relentless, low-level worry about everything — health, finances, relationships, the future — that you can't seem to turn off no matter what. GAD affects roughly 1 in 16 people and is characterized by worry that's difficult to control, exhausting, and present even when nothing is obviously wrong. Our anxiety treatment for GAD targets the thought patterns keeping the worry cycle running.

Social Anxiety
Disorder

More than shyness — social anxiety is a persistent, intense fear of being scrutinized, judged, or embarrassed in social or performance situations. It's the most common anxiety disorder, affecting 1 in 8 people. It can make everyday interactions feel like a performance with invisible critics watching. Our anxiety counseling helps you re-engage with the social world without dread or avoidance.

Panic Attacks &
Panic Disorder

Sudden, overwhelming surges of fear — racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, a feeling of losing control or dying — that seem to come from nowhere. What makes panic disorder particularly debilitating is the secondary anxiety: the constant fear of the next attack. Our anxiety treatment breaks both the panic cycle and the anticipatory fear that builds around it.

OCD & Intrusive
Thoughts

Unwanted, distressing thoughts that get stuck on repeat — and the rituals or reassurance-seeking that temporarily relieves them but ultimately makes anxiety worse. OCD is a distinct anxiety presentation requiring a specific approach. We use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the evidence-based gold standard for OCD, that gets real, lasting results.
Treated with ERP — gold standard

Childhood & Adolescent
Anxiety

Anxiety disorders affect nearly 1 in 12 children and 1 in 4 adolescents — making them the most common mental health condition in young people. Children often can't name what they're feeling: it shows up as school avoidance, clinginess, tantrums, stomachaches, or refusing social situations. Our anxiety counseling for youth uses age-appropriate CBT proven to produce real change.

Trauma-Related
Anxiety & PTSD

When anxiety is rooted in something that happened — an accident, a loss, a difficult relationship, or something harder to name — standard anxiety counseling isn't always enough. Our clinicians are trained in trauma-informed approaches that address both the anxiety you feel today and what's driving it beneath the surface.

Evidence-Based Anxiety Treatment

Why Evidence-Based Anxiety Counseling Works — and What the Research Shows

Anxiety disorders are among the most well-studied and most treatable conditions in all of mental health. We know, from decades of rigorous research, which approaches work — and which ones don’t.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the gold standard for anxiety treatment. It works by targeting two things: the thought patterns that keep anxiety going, and the avoidance behaviors that reinforce it. Research shows CBT produces large effect sizes compared to no treatment — among the strongest results in psychotherapy research for any condition.

Crucially, exposure-based work is the most powerful component of anxiety treatment. The reason anxiety persists is largely because avoidance prevents your nervous system from learning that the feared situation is actually manageable. Exposure — done carefully and at your pace — directly corrects that. Studies show exposure-based interventions produce larger effects than cognitive approaches alone.

The most important factor is not just the method — it’s the fit. Research consistently shows that therapeutic alliance and approach specificity matter enormously. That’s why we match you thoughtfully, and why we tailor treatment to your specific type of anxiety — not a generic protocol.

It really works.

CBT for anxiety is one of the most studied treatments in all of mental health — and the research is clear: it produces some of the strongest results of any therapy approach, for both adults and kids.

Facing fear beats avoiding it.

The single most powerful part of anxiety treatment is learning to gently face the things you've been avoiding — not all at once, but step by step. Studies show this works better than any other technique for getting lasting relief.

Kids respond well too.

CBT works for children and teenagers, not just adults. Many kids experience significant improvement — sometimes full recovery — within a matter of months. Getting help early makes a real difference.

It doesn't take forever.

Most people see real, meaningful change within a few months of weekly sessions — not years of open-ended therapy. Anxiety treatment is focused, with a clear direction and a real destination.

Our Approach

Anxiety Treatment Methods We Use at Aspire

We don’t use a one-size-fits-all method. The approach depends on your specific type of anxiety, your history, and what you respond to. These are the evidence-based tools we draw from.

Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy (CBT)

The gold standard for anxiety disorders across all ages. CBT focuses on two things: identifying and changing the thought patterns that fuel anxiety, and reducing the avoidance behaviors that keep anxiety entrenched. It's structured, practical, goal-oriented, and produces lasting change — with some of the largest effect sizes of any psychotherapy approach.

Exposure
Therapy

The most powerful active ingredient in anxiety treatment. Anxiety grows through avoidance — the more we avoid something that feels threatening, the more threatening it feels. Exposure therapy carefully and systematically confronts feared situations in a graduated way, helping your nervous system learn that the feared outcome doesn't materialize. Done right, it produces lasting freedom from fear.

Exposure & Response
Prevention (ERP)

The evidence-based gold standard specifically for OCD and intrusive thoughts. ERP works by exposing you to anxiety-triggering thoughts or situations while resisting the compulsions or reassurance-seeking that normally follow. Over time, this breaks the OCD cycle at its root — not by reducing the thought, but by changing your relationship to it.
Gold standard for OCD treatment

Acceptance & Commitment
Therapy (ACT)

ACT works by building psychological flexibility — the ability to experience anxious thoughts and feelings without being controlled by them, and to keep moving toward what matters to you. It's particularly effective for anxiety that's become entangled with your sense of self, or for people who have tried to fight their anxiety and found that fighting it makes it worse.
Moderate to large effect sizes for anxiety

Mindfulness-Based
Approaches

Structured mindfulness practices that directly reduce anxiety's grip by teaching you to observe anxious thoughts without reacting to them. A landmark 2023 JAMA Psychiatry trial found Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction was as effective as prescription medication for anxiety disorders — without the side effects. We incorporate mindfulness as part of a comprehensive anxiety treatment plan.
Noninferior to escitalopram (JAMA, 2023)

Family-Inclusive Treatment
for Youth

For children and adolescents, anxiety treatment works best when parents are part of the process. Research shows that family-directed interventions — improving parent-child communication, reducing accommodation of anxiety, and building parent confidence — significantly improve outcomes. We work with the whole family system, not just the child.

From Our Clients

Real Outcomes From
Real People

"My therapist is naturally intuitive and has vast psychological knowledge. A close friend may be a great listening ear but lacks the expertise, and not every pro instinctively gets it. When you combine these two, you get a powerful driver of success."

B.G., treated for anxiety at Aspire

"My therapist was a constant source of inspiration. I grew so much in myself, my marriage, raising my children, and in my profession because of him."

R.B., long-term therapy patient at Aspire

"My therapist has a unique ability to be present with his clients, helping them process in a healthy manner. It was a privilege to have my therapist guide me and help me get to where I am today."

Ready to start feeling like yourself again?

A free, no-pressure 15-minute call is all it takes. We’ll talk about what’s going on with your anxiety, answer every question you have, and make sure we’re the right fit. There’s nothing to lose — and a lot to gain.

Before You Reach Out, You Probably Want to Know…

We use evidence-based approaches tailored to your specific type of anxiety — primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed care where relevant. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all method. The approach depends on your presentation, your history, and what the research says works best for your type of anxiety.

Yes. We offer HIPAA-secure telehealth for clients in New York and New Jersey. Research confirms that online CBT for anxiety (iCBT) is just as effective as in-person treatment for most people — and for many, easier to access consistently. Telehealth also removes the barrier of having to travel, which matters when anxiety is already making daily tasks harder.

Yes — this is a core part of what we do. Anxiety disorders affect nearly 1 in 4 adolescents and 1 in 12 children, and the median age of anxiety disorder onset is just 11 years old. We use developmentally appropriate CBT for children and teens, and we typically involve parents in a meaningful way — because the research shows family involvement significantly improves outcomes in youth anxiety treatment.

It depends on what you’re dealing with. Research shows that CBT for anxiety disorders typically takes 8–20 weekly sessions for meaningful outcomes. Many clients with situational or mild-to-moderate anxiety see real progress within 8–16 sessions. More complex presentations — including OCD, trauma-related anxiety, or long-standing social anxiety — often take longer. We set clear goals and revisit progress regularly so you always know where you stand.

We hear this often — and it’s almost never a sign that treatment can’t work for you. Approach and therapeutic fit matter enormously in anxiety counseling. Many clients who didn’t respond to previous therapy thrive here — because we use specific, evidence-based methods and take the matching process seriously. Past experience with therapy is not a predictor of future results.

CBT is structured, skills-based, and time-limited — focused on understanding the thoughts and behaviors that maintain anxiety, and systematically changing them. It’s the most extensively researched anxiety treatment in existence, with large effect sizes confirmed across hundreds of trials. Other evidence-based approaches like ACT and mindfulness complement CBT well, particularly for people whose anxiety is more diffuse or existential. We draw on all of these — and tailor the mix to you.
